Scouting at St. John’s
In an effort to provide a valuable life experience, we at St. John’s want to enable and encourage the continued development of a viable Scouting program at St. John’s. Troop 7 is currently under the auspices of St. John’s – but is in need of leadership and development to sustain a vigorous Scouting program.
Adam Reiss of St. John’s has agreed to serve as the liaison and Charter Representative for the Scouting program at St. John’s. He is looking for individuals – male and female – who would be willing to help on a leadership committee. If you can help Adam in strengthening the Scouting program at St. John’s please call him at 670.2854 or contact Pastor Olson at the church ofice – 793.3933. Thanks in advance for what can be a very valuable experience for young people in our community and in our congregation.
Knitting
Knitting on Sundays will resume after Memorial Day, on Sunday, June 6. Join us between services in the PLC Lobby. Knitting knowledge is not required—we can offer instruction! We plan to knit washcloths/dishcloths for the Mini O’Beirne Crisis Nursery’s Holiday Store. Please watch for sales at local shops for cotton yarn to knit these cloths. If you have any questions, call Lynne Ewan at 546-9632 (home), 414-4449 (cell) or email her at lynne.ewan@sbcglobal.net.
An Appeal to St. John’s Disciples
We need people willing to weed, water, trim, till, edge, mulch, transplant and plant. Yes, we need you, all of you who are able for Monday nights at 5:30 or any time if you would like to adopt a special area to work on. I will be happy to work with anyone wanting to adopt a bed. Please consider donating your time or making a donation to help us afford a beautiful exterior worthy of our lovely building. If you are able to help us, contact Pamela O’Neill, 217-416-0557/ pamelaoneill@comcast.net.
News from the American and Global Mission Committee
The members of our committee have chosen to use the monies available from St. John’s Mission Fund to help support the Lutheran Nursing School in Madagascar (SEFAM). Pat Bentsen, the missionary nurse supported by St. John’s, has told us how critical it is for the people of Madagascar to educate nurses from their own midst. Many people, especially in rural areas, do not have access to medical care; and often, the care that is available is substandard. Please check out the display boards in the narthex and Parish Life Center lobby to see greetings and photos from Pat Bentsen and read how student nurses study in Madagascar. By supporting the Lutheran Nursing School in Madagascar, St. John’s is reaching out to God’s children in need. Our dollars will make a difference!
