Stephen Ministry Commissioning this Sunday

This Sunday, June 13 at the 9:45 a.m. Sanctuary Service we will be commissioning two more Stephen Ministers and a new Stephen Leader. The Stephen Ministers are Carol Lange and Ron Santhuff who have completed the 50 hours of training in Stephen Ministry and join the dozens of other Stephen Ministers at St. John’s. The Stephen Leader is Nicole Rogers who attended the week-long training session in April held in St. Louis.

Stephen Ministers are trained in compassionate listening and provide support for those who may be experiencing some of life’s difficulties. Stephen Ministers are not counselors but provide supportive listening skills to assist those who may be experiencing the death of a loved one, divorce, employment difficulties, family and relationship issues or personal dilemmas including caring for aged parents and illness.

Stephen Leaders are those who have spent a week in intensive training to lead the program in a congregation. Those who are presently Stephen Leaders and who administer the program at St. John’s and work with the three other local congregations who have a Stephen Ministry program include: Pastor Busboom, Cindy Koonce, George Lambert and Nicole Rogers and Pastor Olson.

If you or someone you know is going through a tough time – emotionally or spiritually, struggling with a crisis in life consider letting a Stephen Minister help. A Stephen Minister is a member of our congregation who is trained to listen, care, encourage, pray, and walk alongside you during difficult times. It’s confidential, free and very helpful.
