Revelation 22:1-5

1Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, bright as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb 2through the middle of the street of the city. On either side of the river is the tree of life with its twelve kinds of fruit, producing its fruit each month; and the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations. 3Nothing accursed will be found there any more. But the throne of God and of the Lamb will be in it, and his servants will worship him; 4they will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads. 5And there will be no more night; they need no light of lamp or sun, for the Lord God will be their light, and they will reign forever and ever.

The timing of when the prophecies of Revelation occur has been discussed for a long time. One of my past churches spent a lot of time trying to glean the timing of Revelation. Personally, I don't think the timing is what actually matters. I think the meat and potatoes of Revelation is the content and not the "when" of the content.

So what of the content? John's vision is of pure water, fantastic trees, and much more, including God's light shining upon the people. It's a promise of the return of the perfect world that we once had in Eden, before the problems started by Adam and Eve.

Sometimes we wish we could see into a crystal ball and know what is going to happen. I think today's reflection is that crystal ball. It is a look into the glorious future that is waiting for God's people. We will have every provision that we need and they will all be provided by God. We will have eternal fellowship with God and will be able to see His face. Wow! I love the content of today's reading. Don't you?

Our precious God, thank you for the look into the future towards the day when we can all be with you and enjoy eternal fellowship with you. May we remain steadfast in your Word until that coming day. In Jesus' name, Amen.
