Scripture Reading: 1 Peter 5:6-11

6 Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, 7 casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you. 8 Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. 9 Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world. 10 And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you. 11 To him be the dominion forever and ever. Amen.

Advice. Opinions. They come from everywhere. Sometimes it’s

hard to know what advice to listen to as we go about our daily

lives. It seems like everyone has an opinion about everything,

and many people are free to share, even when we don’t ask. It

can be hard to know if we should listen to our own intuition, go

with what our family thinks, or take the advice of our friends,

co-workers, or fellow church members.

Thankfully there is a better way! Today’s reading from 1 Peter is

full of awesome advice. Not only is the advice awesome, but we

know that we can and should trust and follow it, because it is the

Word of God. I love the beautiful words in this passage: Humble

yourselves, so that God may lift you up; Cast all your anxiety on

him because he cares for you; Resist the devil, standing firm in

the faith; The God of all grace will himself restore you and

make you strong, firm, and steadfast. What beautiful words from

this wonderful life guidebook! Let us always turn to the Lord

our God, and allow Him to guide our paths, in all matters large

and small.

Lord, keep us steadfast in your Word! In Jesus’ name, Amen.
