Isaiah 61:10-62:3

10 I will greatly rejoice in the Lord,
    my whole being shall exult in my God;
for he has clothed me with the garments of salvation,
    he has covered me with the robe of righteousness,
as a bridegroom decks himself with a garland,
    and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.
11 For as the earth brings forth its shoots,
    and as a garden causes what is sown in it to spring up,
so the Lord God will cause righteousness and praise
    to spring up before all the nations.

The Vindication and Salvation of Zion

62 For Zion’s sake I will not keep silent,
    and for Jerusalem’s sake I will not rest,
until her vindication shines out like the dawn,
    and her salvation like a burning torch.
2 The nations shall see your vindication,
    and all the kings your glory;
and you shall be called by a new name
    that the mouth of the Lord will give.
3 You shall be a crown of beauty in the hand of the Lord,
    and a royal diadem in the hand of your God.

Today’s reading from Isaiah is all about rejoicing and praising God! It reminds me of a song and, as most people know, I love songs! Singing is my favorite way of connecting to the Lord. When I sing, I feel like my heart is connecting directly to God. Today’s reading says the words, “I will not keep silent!”, and that’s how I feel when I sing. I will not keep silent. I will sing out praises everyday to my God. Not everyone enjoys singing as much as I do and everyone connects to God in a different way. There are so many ways that you might connect with God. Bible study, praying, meditating, serving those in need, and serving the church are just a few of the ways that you might connect best to God. Maybe you direct the children’s Christmas program, deliver meals to shut ins, lead a small group, attend a small group, are a Stephen Minister, or any countless number of other things that allow you to best connect with God. There are so many ways to connect to God and praise His name. As we head into this New Year, find your way and connect to God everyday with your own unique gifts.

God of Grace, in this new year, grow my connection with you. Make me faithful in worship, bold in prayer, dedicated in service, and loud in praise. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
