Pentecost 8

“Blessed by the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, just as he chose us in Christ before the foundation of the world to be holy and blameless before him in love” - Ephesians 1:3-4

It has been a month now since we learned the difficult news that the bids on our long-awaited building renovation came in much, much higher than anticipated. As you know, these higher-than-expected bids required us to push the pause button on the project until a good solution can be found. So, what has happened over this past month and where are we now?

The Property Ministry Team, Finance Committee, and Leadership Board have all met multiple times and are working closely with Graham and Hyde Architects to come up with several options for moving forward. Once these options are developed, a series of informational forums will be scheduled for the congregation in anticipation of a special congregational meeting. At these forums, we will present to the congregation the various options we have and seek the congregation’s input on which option seems best. Though this process might not be as quick as many of us may have hoped, we have decided that it is better to make good, long-term decisions rather than quick decisions that may not serve us as well in the future. Thank you for your continued patience as we discern together how best to move forward!

In the meantime, MINISTRY HAPPENS! The church is not the building and, despite this set- back, MINISTRY IS HAPPENING ALL OVER THE PLACE HERE AT ST. JOHN’S! Just over the past month, 16 disciples returned from Marion, Virginia where they completed multiple home repair projects for low-income individuals! 15 of our high school youth and 4 adults joined with over 31,000 Lutheran high school youth from across the country in Houston for a powerful week of learning, serving, and worshiping together! Well over 100 youth and volunteers participated in our Vacation Bible School this past week and collected well over 1,000 items for our summer school supply collection! It’s been an AWESOME week! A new Stephen Ministry class is being recruited for the fall! Our fall ministries are being planned! Small groups continue to meet! Ministry teams continue to serve! Worship continues to be Spirit-filled! New visitors worship with us each and every week! In short, God continues to be active and alive in many, many powerful ways in and through our congregation!

Stay-tuned as we discern together how and where the Spirit is leading us! Together, we are the church! Together, we are the body of Christ in the world! Together, we are living out our mission to be and make disciples of Christ, in response to God’s grace. The church is not a building. It is the Spirit-filled people of God!
