PERSONNEL POLICIES STATEMENT:  Employees of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Springfield shall carry out the duties to which they are assigned in accordance with the faith and mission of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.

TITLE: Director of Youth and Family Ministries

REPORTS TO: Pastor for Outreach & Discipleship

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Director of Youth and Family Ministries is a part-time position that provides leadership and support in developing ministry with 9th through 12th grade youth and their families. This position requires a faith-filled, energetic, vision-minded individual with strong relational skills, a passion for sharing the story of Jesus’ love and, a proven ability to recruit, train, and equip others in the congregation to join in ministry both to and with youth and their families.

PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Lead the existing Youtherans ministry, including regular youth group gatherings and special events, for youth and their families that help them live out the mission statement of St. John’s Lutheran Church to be and make disciples of Christ, in response to God’s grace

  2. Work alongside the Director of Children and Family Ministries to assure continuity of ministry and programming between the Children and Family Ministries and the Youth and Family Ministries

  3. Connect the youth and family ministries of the congregation with all aspects of congregational life including Community Care, Discipleship, Outreach and Mission, Stewardship, and Worship

  4. Provide faith-filled vision and leadership for the youth and family ministries of St. John's in their varied expressions

  5. Research, procure, and/or develop educational programming for youth and their families

  6. Serve as the staff liaison for any and all Youth and Family Ministry Teams

  7. Recruit, train, and equip others to use their spiritual gifts in sharing leadership in all aspects of the youth and family ministries program

  8. Encourage and equip parents to be actively involved in all aspects of faith development for their youth December 2025

  9. Participate in weekly staff meetings and seasonal program and vision development retreats, as available

  10. Provide regular and timely communication regarding upcoming ministry opportunities for youth and families

  11. Uphold and promote the Employee Handbook and the Safeguarding God's Children Policy of St. John’s Lutheran Church

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in youth ministry and/or working with high school-aged young people in a non-profit or volunteer organization, club, or extra-curricular setting

  • Working knowledge of the Scriptures and Lutheran theology

  • Willingness to conform to this congregation’s understanding and teaching of faith

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required

  • Bachelor or Master’s degree in Education or Youth and Family Ministry or related field preferred 

Pay: $16,000.00 - $18,700.00 per year
