FACILITY MANAGER POSITION DESCRIPTION

PERSONNEL POLICIES STATEMENT:
The employees of this church, in all of their services-both within the congregation and in the fulfillment of the Church's mission in the world -shall carry out the duties to which they are assigned in faithfulness to the faith and mission of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America.

POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supervises custodial staff, assists in the preparation of facility areas for use and maintains records pertinent to facility use and maintenance. This position reports to the Lead Pastor. In addition, this position collaborates with the Property Ministry Team. The Facilities Manager is responsible for conducting minor maintenance, assists in set-up and cleaning for the church and its properties, buildings and grounds. This position requires supervision of frequent evening and/or weekend hours as well as frequent lifting, standing for long periods, and exposure to climate changes and temperatures.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Custodial Management

  • Maintains close contact with the Lead Pastor and Office Administrator on custodial coverage, facility use, and notes of that use (i.e. damage to facility or equipment, special needs, etc.)

  • Monitors the safety and cleanliness of interior and exterior areas, and supervises custodial activity

  • Arranges custodial coverage for both regular and special church-related activities

  • Prepares the facilities for and schedules custodians to be on duty during worship services, funerals, weddings, and other special events and meetings

  • Evaluates, annually, custodial staff using the appropriate process

  • Coordinates and maintains records on all maintenance of the church facilities carried out by volunteers and professionals

  • Ensures that all necessary equipment for scheduled events is available and in proper working condition

  • Inventories, and as necessary procures, janitorial, maintenance, and all other applicable supplies and equipment not specifically handled by the Preschool and the Church Office

  • Ensures all required inspections are scheduled and carried out in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations; maintains records of the same

  • Attend and participate in Property Team meetings

Custodial

  • Performs routine maintenance on facilities, making repairs as needed, and performs custodial duties in coordination with the Lead Custodian

  • Provides for landscape maintenance including grass cutting, flower maintenance and shrubbery trimming. Maintain the playground area for the Preschool and clear sidewalks of snow and ice as necessary

  • Coordinates custodial care for events such as weddings, funerals, and other special activities or events, so that custodial staff is on duty during such events, in addition to set up beforehand, clean up afterward

  • Provides for the necessary set-up, tear-down, and cleaning activities as it relates to the operation of the Preschool

  • First responder to all alarm calls

  • Makes various pick-ups and deliveries as needed (i.e., post office runs, janitorial supplies, etc.)

  • Other duties as assigned or required

Facility Scheduling

  • Maintains appropriate availability of custodial coverage

  • Coordinates the use of facility with the pastoral staff

  • Maintains accurate records of the use of the facilities, the costs required for that use and notes of that use - such as damage to facilities or equipment, special needs etc. and shares that information with the proper staff and church leaders

  • Other duties as assigned

 
QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ability to supervise and coordinate one or more custodial staff

  • Ability to recruit and coordinate volunteers

  • Ability to utilize basic computer software necessary to maintain records

  • Necessary janitorial skills including knowledge of supplies and their applications

  • Necessary maintenance skills including knowledge of various types of machinery, their application and mechanical upkeep

  • Self-motivated; ability to perform tasks with minimum supervision

  • Knowledge of landscape maintenance

  • Good communication and organizational skills

  • Ability to organize and prioritize time
