FALL GROUNDS WORK DAY
SATURDAY, OCTOBER 3 | 9:00 AM - NOON

Help prepare our grounds for Fall and Winter. We want to get everything cleaned up and ready for Winter. Work will include weeding, trimming, garbage pick up, and other types of regular yard work. Feel free to come and go; if you can spare an hour, it will be a big help!

PLEASE BRING:

• Yard Tools (portable things: shovel, rake, pitchfork, powered/hand clippers, leaf blower, etc.)

• Work gloves

• Proper attire for the weather

JOIN THE CHRISTMAS CANTATA!
Rehearsals begin on Thursday, October 1!

It's time to begin rehearsing for this year’s Christmas Cantata Sing Joy to All the World! by Lloyd Larson. All singers are welcome! You do not need to be a member of the Chancel Choir in order to sing in the Cantata. Come and join your voice with ours as we share the story of Jesus’ birth!

Join us as we will reflect on God's story, the story of St. John's, and our own stories.

At St. John's we encourage all to grow in their faith and relationship with Jesus. One of the many ways disciples as young as 3 years old through adults can do this is on Sundays during our Discipleship Hour.

Are you interested in learning more about the Lutheran faith and what it means to be a disciple at St. John’s? Would you like to get to know people in our faith community?

At St. John’s, our goal is to grow disciples, not members! Therefore, the goal of our New Disciples process is to help new disciples grow in faith and community. This fall, we invite all who are interested in becoming a disciple of Jesus at St. John’s to attend five Sunday morning sessions from 9:45-10:35 am beginning September 20.

In addition to the classes, participants will be invited to sit down for a visit with Pastor Ryan Anderson, our lead pastor at St. John’s, and for an individual orientation visit with Bridgit Melton, our Coordinator of Discipleship Connections. These individual meetings will be set up according to your schedule.

At the completion of this process, those wishing to join our congregation will be received into the congregation at the service of their choice on All Saints weekend (October 31 and November 1).

Sunday School & Youtherans LITE Registration
Registration for Sunday school will take place on Sunday, September 13th for all children ages 3 - 6th grade! Be sure to stop by the registration table and get your kids all set for the program year! It’s sure to be another great one!

Sew comforting, helpful, and enjoyable items for people in need in our church, community and world, sharing tangible signs of God's love. Meets the second Friday of the month in the The Parlor to share completed service projects, such as pillowcases for St. John's Women and Children's Center, baby blankets and toys for Ronald McDonald House, pockets for cancer patient drains, and school bags for Lutheran World Relief.

The DLT (Disciples Lunching Together) Lunch Group of St. Johns meets at LePeep on the second Wednesday of each month. To ensure seating and service, please contact Roy Booker at by 4:30 p.m. on Monday before we meet. We look forward to sharing Breakfast or Brunch and fellowship with you!

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 5

St. John’s Lutheran Church will be hosting the worship and meal at Washington Street Mission on Saturday, September 5. We are looking for disciples to help serve/clean up breakfast and visit with guests or prepare breakfast casseroles. Those preparing a casserole (please use a disposable aluminum pan) to serve 10-12 people. Both casseroles and volunteers need to be at the Church no later than 7:30am on Saturday, September 5

Central/Southern Illinois Synod SYNOD DAYS

Central/Southern Illinois Synod invites all disciples of every congregation to attend SYNOD DAYS! This is a day of worship, learning, fellowship, and relationship-building for all generations in each of the six conferences of the Central/Southern Illinois Synod. West Central Conference SYNOD DAY is Saturday, August 29 from 10:00 am-3:00 pm at Our Lord’s Lutheran Church (150 Wilma Drive, Maryville). Registration closes August 10. Remember to bring along your backpacks to worship on Sunday, August 16 to get them blessed before school starts! Be sure to start school off on the right foot and remember that God is always with you - even in Math class!
